This is an very old Chinese classic sang by Teresa Teng many years ago. In fact I hear it wherever I go, once I was in Batam there was a live band, when it notice most of the audience are Chinese, suddenly sang this.. I believe they memorized the sounds and just sing it out… In fact when I was in Bali, at the seafood restaurant at Kuta Beach at Bali, the live band sang this too..
In fact once in a charity show, the 5th President Of Singapore Mr Ong Teng Cheong played this song for his wife, who was suffering from a terminal illness.
Then I realized that alot of my Indonesian friends had parents who likes to sing this, and they themselves know how to sing this, which was very surprising… In fact I think I remember hearing this in the sang by many of the older Chinese folks when I was eating at the famous “Chinatown” outside Novotel hotel in Jakarta, which has a open air free karaoke facility.
In fact when I look at the title, I was wondering , why did the author choose to use the moon to represent love. I remember this phase from an old Chinese song “月有阴晴圆缺 (yuè yǒu Yīn qíng yuán quē )” Which tells us that the moon changes very often, clear or cloudy skies, crescent or full moon.
Then as I read this lyrics I realize the person choose the moon because it is steadfast, and unchanging and true. So even if you were to perceive that it has change, it is always there. Even on a cloudy day when we cant see the moon, it doesn’t mean it is not there..Then I realize the singer Evoone Hsu also commented that in the interview. I have chosen her version to display in this entry, including the interview where she was expressing her thoughts on the song..
So lets enjoy the song now

The translation of the song :
You asked me how deep is my love for you
and how much do I love you.
My feelings for you is true
and my love for you is true
As the moon represents my heart towards you
You asked me how deep is my love for you
and how much do I love you.
My feelings for you are steadfast
My love for you is unchanging
And the moon represents my heart to wards you
A Soft kiss from you
have indeed moved my heart
This deep love that is present
Keeps me longing until today
You asked me how deep is my love for you
and how much do I love you.
So I ask you to think about this
and ask you to take a close look at this
as the moon represent my heart
This is a song that was popular during my Polytechnic days, this is sung by Andy Lau, which is often translated as “The Stupid Child” I would think “The Foolish Child” is a more apt translation.
The whole song was talking about someone which came to the city to work, yet continue to belief in the simple things that he learnt from the little town that he came from. Which resulted to him leading a very tough life, but the Singers here claimes that God loves such silly child.
Of course the singers here arent christians, hence they address God as the O Heavens. But I think sometimes leading a life like this foolish child is liken to us holding on to our morals and beliefs in a world where injustice seems to prevail and goodness are slowly depleting in the world. Will we still be like this foolish child who stubbornly holds on to his ideals and belief?
Ohh In a quite village there was a foolish child
born in the 1960s.
During his teenage years he came to the city, fearless under the blazing sun
he worked hard until the 1970s
All he discovered is that although his friend do not water their potted plants,
yet the flowers still bloom by itself.
Ohh, as the time past quickly this foolish child
reached the 1980s
He was in his 30s passing his life without any accomplishments
he passed through the 1990s
The most saddening thing is that he is always one beat slower than his peers
and never had much cash in his pockets
(Aiyoh) Give yourself a pat on your chest and stand up courageously once again
Please do not let this spoil your mood
(Aiyoh) Now face the heavens and pray, please do not take this too hard
The heavens will make their own arrangement for you.
Ohh.. they all said that in this city, the ladies only fall for bad guys
Yet he is unable to comprehend this simple fact
His mum once told him that true love will be the most exciting experince
But in the end I do not have a girlfriend
Yet this silly child choose to be as steadfast as a rock
just that at night he was unable to withstand that loneliness
(Aiyoh) Give yourself a pat on your chest and stand up courageously once again
Do not care if you have to climb the steeps hills or be in the deep ocean
(Aiyoh) Now face the heavens and pray, please do not take this too hard
The heavens will make their own arrangement for you.
The heavens still loves this silly child
This is an article that was left in my draft for a long time, and was a follow up on the study of 10 plagues that God has landed into the land of Egypt. Recently i decided to make edits to it.
To many readers of the old testament the God of the old testament has a lack of love, full of violence. Some may even accuse God of showing bias toward the Israelites. But actually, the story of Moses and the 10 plagues is the best illustration on how God executes his justice in the old testament. Many people like to point the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Jericho as well as the massacre of the Amalekites as evidence of Gods violence against human beings. However those records of Gods punishment are much less in details compared to the execution of the ten plagues onto the land of Egypt.
Before we start to point finger at God.. lets us now discuss how the Plagues begin
The Start Of The 10 Plagues
“The LORD God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying, “Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness”; but indeed, until now you would not hear! Thus says the LORD: “By this you shall know that I am the LORD. Behold, I will strike the waters which are in the river with the rod that is in my hand, and they shall be turned to blood. 18 And the fish that are in the river shall die, the river shall stink, and the Egyptians will loathe to drink the water of the river.”‘” – Moses (Ex 7:16-18)
The 10 plagues did not start because God wanted to flex his muscle before the Egyptians, rather it began with Pharaoh’s disobedience. There are some people that argued that it was Gods plan to harden the heart of the Pharaoh (Ex 7:3, 4:21). But let us take a step back and think, about this. “Did God made his heart harden?” or “Did God just allow Pharaoh to remain harden in his heart?” As I have describe in the last post, Pharaoh had a reason to disobey God. There was nothing alluring about Hebrew servants, but it is more about his status as the sun of Ra. If he is seen to be submitting to a unnamed God of the Hebrew, it will bring political problems into his kingdom.
Moreover, Pharaoh believed that the gods of the Egyptians will protect them from the God of the Hebrews, therefore he remain defiant throughout the 10 plagues.
Therefore, because Pharaoh has chosen in his heart to disobey God, so God decided to start the 10 plagues according to his earlier warning to the Pharaoh. Sometimes when Calamity falls on people, perhaps it is time for us to reconsider whether the calamity was a result of our disobedience to God. God sent his ambassadors (Moses and Aaron) to the Pharaoh but Pharaoh choose to disobey, therefore can we now blame God for executing the consequences? Bearing in mind that is is not just the Pharaoh’s decision but it is a decision of the courts and the magicians who were with the Pharaoh.
The first few plagues are targeted at the Hebrews as well.
In fact, God allowed the plagues to happen to all who disobeyed him. Why would I say it? Let us all take a look at some facts about the 10 plagues that we usually ignore.
Among the ten plagues
1. Water turn to blood (Ex 7:22) : Israelites w:ere deprive of drinking water as well 2. Frogs (Ex 7:25-8:15) : Frogs invaded the house of the Israelites living in Goshen as well 3. Lice (Ex 8:16-19) : The same lice attacked the Israelites in Goshen as well.
4. Flies
Do take note that only the 4th plague God made a distinction between the land of Goshen which the Israelites stayed (Ex 8:22-24). So, it would be unfair to God to say that he specially protected the Israelites from the plague.
Some of you may wonder, why then did the Lord punished the Israelites, what did they do to incur Gods wrath. Lets take a look at the reason behinds God punishing them. a. The Israelites do not trust Moses, despites God giving Moses the sign. this can be seen at the incident of the Bricks without straw (Ex 5:1-17) They treated Moses with contempt (Ex 5:19-21) b. The Israelites are faithless, they believed Moses initially (Ex 4:29-31). Yet they lost their faith when the Pharaoh started to be nasty.
In my opinion, during the time of the plagues, the faith of the Israelites must have went thought tremendous re-examination. It is during this time where they found that their faith is lacking, and therefore repented from their faithlessness. When they are reconciled with God, God immediately stopped his punishment upon them. however, the Egyptians hard heartedness clause God to continue to punish them.
Therefore my friends, when we consider the calamities that before us, if we were to discover that the calamities that befall us are indeed a result of our disobedience and faithlessness. We ought to quickly turn back and return to our God. Let us heed the advice of Moses to the Pharaoh
“Indeed I am going out from you, and I will entreat the LORD, that the swarms of flies may depart tomorrow from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. But let Pharaoh not deal deceitfully anymore in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.” – Moses (Ex 8: 29)
Let us make the same mistakes as the Pharaoh who harden his heart. (Ex 8:32).
The Result of Turning Back To God
5. Livestock diseased
By the fifth plague, where there are diseased livestock, we can see Gods protection go beyond just protecting the people. When the plague started, the livestock of the Egyptians and the Pharaoh were all diseased and are dead. The Pharaoh assumed that the Hebrews livestock would die as well However, when he sent his men to check. All the livestock of the Hebrews were unharmed (Ex 9:7)
That is when the Pharaoh understand that the God of the Hebrews is a God that watches over everyone who put their trust into him.
So are we looking for grace from God? But when calamity strikes, do we now murmur against God and saying God doesn’t love us anymore? Actually the there are times where God uses calamity to remind us how far our faith has fallen. Over here God allowed the first 3 plagues to fall on the Israelites so that they would re-examine their faith. But we can be assured that when God gave a calamity, he will know how much his people can handle. Just like 1 Cor 10: 13 which reads
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” – Paul 1 Cor 10:13.
God will always provide a way of escape, in trials and temptation, one of the easiest way to escape is to repent before God and reexamine our faith.
One of the purpose of the 10 plagues is to turn the Israelites from the servant to the Pharaoh to a servant of God. Hence you always read God saying this “Let my people go and worship me”. Exodus doesn’t just record Israelites leaving Egypt, but it also records how God reform the faith of the Israelites and he does so by punishing both Egyptians and Israelites alike when they disobey God
Our God is a just God
Just like suffering have change the Israelites hearts and thinking.. and allow them to begin their journey of faith. Likewise now God has called out to his believers in the last days
“Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.” – angel in Rev 18:1-3
“Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Render to her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ Therefore her plagues will come in one day-death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her. ” angel in Rev 18:4-8
We are living in the world where God is about to show his justice to, the ancient Egypt and Babylon is a representative of our modern, “civilised” world. Will we now begin our journey of faith, and depart from that city? Likewise we must reform our faith, and depart from Egypt.
Today when I was with a friend, he was feeling pretty downcast…. and being a good friend as I am, I started to hear what he had to say.
Well this friend was working in a place where there was plenty of corporate information hiding, most of the information required for his duties are hidden away, his boss did not care, all they care about is whether, my friend was able to guess the next month revenue, and whether they all get to see their funny reports which can never tally.
Unfortunately, one of the reports receive customer feedback…. which has a butterfly effect similar to the Marco polo bridge incident. Where a minor problem get blown out of proportion. They all surrounded him and accused him of “Not having a good view of his project”, “Does not put his heart into his work”. Which result to now some big shot from the customer end was making a huge fuss over the matter.
In fact, that report never had any link to any bills and was only requested by some report hungry sukhomlinov business leader who never once made any sense with the data until lately he/she got so free to look at it… and thus a simple problem got blown out of proportion. when that happen, it depends on whether one would like to resolve the dispute simply or choose to begin a barrage of emails which is the climax of the corporate game of blame pushing.
Sometimes I wonder if I were him what would I do? Indeed, in the modern game of corporate blame pushing, it is inevitable that one day that they single send an accusation to us, in order to save their own backs. When you are wrongly accused, or verbally abused by your bosses, how should one react?
As I am praying about it, the Holy spirit allowed me to recall the scene of Jesus at his Crucifixion
“Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him. And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.” (Matt 27:27-31)
Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left.
And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.'” Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him with the same thing. (Matt 27:38-44)
Then, I recalled what Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Lk 23:34)
Over here Jesus continue to do the work that is necessary for him to finish (Despite all the accusation and insult he received)… During that prayer, I recall another scripture spoken by Elder Peter
Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh. For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: ” Who committed no sin,Nor was deceit found in His mouth”;
who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-by whose stripes you were healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. (1 Pet 2:18-25)
But understand this is one thing, I can only pray to God that he would give my friend the strength in spirit to withstand the reviling and accusation brought before him for a simple problem.
Once I remember when i just step out to work, there was many types of companies that interviewed me. In Singapore, there were companies for various sizes, there are companies as big as 400-500 staff, and there are some as small as 6 staff. The like to give themselves many types of abbreviation. Commonly in Singapore, you can hear the following term
MNC : Multinational Company
SME: Small and Medium Enterprise
Listed Company
Local Company with a Global Presence
What does these term really mean to an average worker? Sometimes I remember during the interviews sometimes I asked.. “So, what is the main reason why I should join you?” and the interviewer may say something like “Ohhh,,, You will now have a chance to work in a MNC… (Or Listed Companies). Once in my project, there was this client who always like to brag about her days as a CEO of some MNC.. (From what I know, sells toilet papers only).
Sometimes when she was leading her SME, she is still unaware that there is a huge difference between her ex MNC and her current SME.. she keep making noise over the slightest matter saying “You know… when I was working in the MNC.. I will never accept this type of quality” and over a very trivial matter she made everyone slog for hours and giving excellent productivity.
In fact.. so what is the main difference about being in MNC, listed company SME? To an worker who draws a monthly salary, so how does all these things apply to them?
MNC
A MNC merely means that this company has facilities and other assets other than their home country. They have a global management, very big and diverse businesses. Note that some MNC are merely combination of many small and medium companies which may or many not coordinate their efforts in profit making.
Such companies had an advantage of a huge capital, and the ability to buy up many small companies… leveraging on them to provide service at a much lower cost compared to other smaller companies.. However, their disadvantage is a lack of the overall view of all their businesses, only relying on numbers to make their decision.
One of the major characteristic of the MNC is that they have the highest number of Sukhomlinov business leaders and and fakes.. In good times this is alright because the company has massive capital, and since the management looks at numbers only. The Sukhomlinov leaders and managers can make good looking report (AKA Magical Dress in the Emperors New Clothes) to fool the management. And since the management only has time to look at numbers.. this is usually suffice.
Usually such organizations is full of corporate inefficiency and are slow in making decision. Due to the size and the number of people.. Simple decision can take thousand of years… and the Sukhomlinov leaders created alot of complicated business processes.. slowing down everything.
A MNC is somewhat like a huge monster who needs huge resources in order to maintain its business operations. This is the reason why it needs huge ERP and other softwares, however, with the abundance of Sukhomlinov leaders, they creates tons and tons of paperwork and administrative duties depriving the company of the ability to make quick business decision which is necessary for the current business climate.
For SME employing staff from an MNC, be careful of the creation of many MNC like corporate structure and inheriting the business politics and the start of corporate inefficiency. It would be disastrous to think that the small and miserable enterprise can have the capital of a MNC to maintain such corporate inefficiency.
I never realized I wrote so much, so I better divided up the discussion into 3 post.
It took me quite a while to get the translated version of this song. This song I heard is pretty popular among my friends in Indonesia. I manage to find the MTV, but not the translation
Until my friend Yohana helped me with the English translation. I just helped to rephrase some of the terms… So lets enjoy this song.
Title: Demi Cinta (Translated as “For Love”)
Singer:Kerispatih
Maaf, ku telah menyakitimu
Ku telah kecewakanmu
Bahkan ku sia-siakan hidupku,
Dan kubawa kau seperti diriku
Walau hati ini t’rus menangis
Menahan kesakitan ini
Tapi ku lakukan semua demi cinta
Akhirnya juga harus ku relakan kehilangan cinta sejatiku
Segalanya t’lah ku berikan
Juga semua kekuranganku
Jika memang ini yang terbaik
Untuk diriku dan dirinya
Kan ku t’rima semua demi cinta
(Refrain)
Jujur, aku tak kuasa,
Saat terakhir ku genggam tanganmu
Namun yang pasti terjadi,
Kita mungkin tak bersama lagi
Bila nanti esok hari
Ku temukan dirimu bahagia
Ijinkan aku titipkan kisah cinta kita selamanya
The translation of the song are as goes
I’m sorry to have hurt you,
and to disappoint you.
I even wasted my life
trying make u to be like me
Even as this heart still crying
Even as it is painful
but, i do it all for love
Finally, I lost my true love
I have given everything to you
including my weakness too
If this is the best
for you and him
I will gladly receive it for love
Refrain
Honestly, I’m not strong, when I hold your hand for that one last time
But, I must allow that to happen, as it is impossible for us live together
If tomorrow i see a happier you
allowed me to save our love story forever

I remember once I saw this MTV when I was shopping for a notebook. I am pretty nostalgic about how life in Pre Civil war china is like, and I saw this MTV playing.. yea.. the female lead is cute.. but I find the lyrics interesting for translation purpose.. so here you go.
This MTV is set on a love story in the pre civil war period of china. Some of the terms used here are very specific to the life and times of that period.. Which makes the watching the MTV essential to understand what he is singing.
Title ::千里之外 (A Thousand Miles Apart) (Note: Lets not try to do the actual conversion)
Singer::周杰伦/费玉清 (As there are 2 singers, I denote by FYQ / JAY)
The english translation may proof to be a difficult for me Please do not laugh, but feel free to comment
( Jay)
My roof is liken to a cliff, and my windchimes are liken to the vast sea, as I am waiting for the you (I assume the lady has a name “Yan”)to return
While it seems that coincidence has staged an accident, when you left silently
Our story took place outside the city, where the thick fog gathers, and we are unable to see our dialog
You are unable to tell that it was my sigh and not the sound of the rushing wind.
As we both waking, who would tells open up the windows sills and reveal our future?
That future that is so delicate that was unable to withstand a simple tear from others.
( FYQ)
So I send you away, a thousand miles away without any protest from you
Living in a suppressive era, perhaps we should not carry our love that far
I send you away to the ends of the earth, and I wonder if you are still there
As the zither sounds comes, as I am unable to tell if you are alive or dead, so I use my whole life, to wait for you
(Jay’s Rap)
Hearing the crying I entered the forest to find a flower but only found a row of moss
The sky are beyond the hills, the rain falls on my garden while my hair is turning white
Hearing the crying I entered the forest to find a flower but only found a row of moss
The sky are beyond the hills, the rain falls on my garden, I am still waiting for you to come
(FYQ)
Dressed fully in white, seeing the place covered in thin dust, with your flawless love
When you return in the midst of the rainstorm, dramatizing my sorrows, as I am drenched within present times
(Jay)
As lotus gathered on the water surface, and the ships appears from the horizon, but you did not return
Covered by the aging time, the flowers blooming that your describe slowly disappears over time.
(Performance scene)

Title: Sway
Singer: Micheal Buble
When marimba rhythms start to play
Dance with me, make me sway
Like a lazy ocean hugs the shore
Hold me close, sway me more
Like a flower bending in the breeze
Bend with me, sway with ease
When we dance you have a way with me
Stay with me, sway with me
Other dancers may be on the floor
Dear, but my eyes will see only you
Only you have the magic technique
When we sway I go weak
I can hear the sounds of violins
Long before it begins
Make me thrill as only you know how
Sway me smooth, sway me now
Other dancers may be on the floor
Dear, but my eyes will see only you
Only you have the magic technique
When we sway I go weak
I can hear the sounds of violins
Long before it begins
Make me thrill as only you know how
Sway me smooth, sway me now
You know how
Sway me smooth, sway me now
Actually it may be hard for people to imagine, I really like the story of Godfather. Sometimes when I take a look at Michael Corleone, how he turn from a war hero to a criminal. How he slowly let go of his morals and aspiration and turn into a crime lord.
But I guess Micheal took the path of being a crime lord started when he decided to avenge the attack the gangsters did to his father Don Vito Corleone. And it got worst when his first wife in Sicily died in a car bomb that was supposed to be targeted at him. This started his hunger for revenge and brought him down that path to be the Godfather
It reminds me that in order to turn oneself into a evil man, that really takes a period of time… and it started for little compromises we make in our life.
But nonetheless, I just want to post the lyrics of “Speak Softly love”
Title: Speak Softly Love
Sung by: Andy William
Speak softly, love and hold me warm against your heart
I feel your words, the tender trembling moments start
Were in a world, our very own
Sharing a love that only few have ever known
Wine-colored days warmed by the sun
Deep velvet nights when we are one
Speak softly, love so no one hears us but the sky
The vows of love we make will live until we die
My life is yours and all becau-au-se
You came into my world with love so softly love
(instrumental interlude>
Wine-colored days warmed by the sun
Deep velvet nights when we are one
Speak softly, love so no one hears us but the sky
The vows of love we make will live until we die
My life is yours and all becau-au-se
You came into my world with love so softly love
