I was watching some video about 7 laws of effective Christian lives. They are talking about returning to the basics of worship and the fact that a Christian life begins by learning to worship, before learning to service. And the fact that many a times, Christians spent much time serving that they forgot whom they are worshipping.

There are also cases where congregations lost their focus in the purpose of Worship and focus too much on the cool looking rock bands and state of the art equipments.

There was once a mega-church that boast of its state of the art equipments and great atmosphere. Sometimes it makes me wonder have Christians forgotten the reason why they gather together for worship.

Let us take a look at what the early church did in their church service.
“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the
breaking of bread, and in prayers

Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done
through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all
things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided
them among all, as anyone had need. ” -Luke The Physician (Acts 2:42-45)

The basis of Christian worships involves
1. Learning and practising the teachings of the Apostles
2. Having Holy Communion, remembering the Lords Death (Breaking
of Bread)
3. Praying (Making supplications before God)
4. Ministering to each others need (sharing all things in common)

At that time, the early church believes that Jesus is returning very early, (perhaps even before the death of Apostle John (John 21:23). Therefore, they genuinely thinks that their worldly possessions is worthless and they would devote themselves in fellowship.

Most likely the practise may have been stopped when the church was persecuted and the disciples have to be on the run. But the bible was silent about it. The last record of the apostles sharing all things in common is found in Acts 4:32-37

But this church in acts serves as a model for all churches to follow. Therefore to worship God involves

1. Understanding the truth and practising it
2. Having Holy Communion to proclaim the Lords death
3. Praying for the will of God to be done
4. Taking care of fellow members.

But it is sad that sometimes as technology progresses, the church seems to place so much emphasis on its equipments and generating of a electrifying atmosphere that they seems to lose the main object of Worship.

In the end times, the church is still doing the same work like in the days of Old.

” After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no
one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing
before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with
palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying,

“Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living
creatures, and fell on their faces before the
throne and worshiped God, ” – John (Rev 7:9-11)

Therefore let us not forget that the primary focus of a Christian life is a life of worship.

In that recording, the speaker quoted the example of a Church in England who over the years struggled to find meaning in their ministry.

that is when the Leader decide to put away the sound systems and bands, just using voices in their service. And it was in that period he wrote the lyrics of this hymn that I am sharing.

God is constantly looking at our hearts to see if we know the heart of worship. So let us learn from the example of the church of the apostles. Let us learn to go back to his words, and to focus our worship on God. Let us consider carefully who we are worshipping whenever we come to the house of the Lord.

Title: The Heart Of Worship
Lyrics : Matt Redman

Verse 1:
When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that’s of worth
That will bless Your heart

Bridge:
I’ll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart

Chorus:
I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus

Verse 2:
King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I’m weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath

Bridge:
I’ll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart

Chorus:
I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it
And it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus

Chorus:
I’m coming back to the heart of worship,
And it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus
I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You,
It’s all about You, Jesus
